Rituals for the New Moon

The New Moon in Libra will be present in the sky on the 6th October 2021, and we will be feeling the effects for days before and after the moon's light disappears from the sky.

The New Moon is a wonderful time for setting intentions for the oncoming months and taking a moment to honour ritual and contemplation. The energy around the New Moon is inward facing, a deep and loving pull back into ourselves. A time of new beginnings, planting seeds and creating intentional plans for the month ahead, The New Moon offers us a unique opportunity to examine ourselves and release anything that no longer serves us as we begin the steady growth back upwards towards The Full Moon in a few weeks.

Libra is the sign of harmony, balance, friendship and partnership. With a moon in Venus, Libra wants us to feel love, pleasure and kinship to others as well as ourselves. In Libra we seek fairness, justice and balance - making this New Moon a wonderful time to step inwards and examine the presence of balance within our lives. Libra is logical yet loving presence, an overwhelming energy of the goddess, allowing us the opportunity to slow down and notice the call of the divine feminine from within us. A slow and trickling river of energy drawing us down into the softness of winter.

This New Moon, why not spend a little time with yourself and take advantage of the inward facing energy to set intentions and honour yourself with ritual. I have popped a few ideas below for you to try, happy intention-setting magical creatures!

  • Light a candle and meditate by gazing at the base of the flame (10 mins)

  • Gather your favourite herbs and make a tincture to be harvested in 8 weeks.

  • Place a jar or water outside or on a window ledge to capture the energies of this new moon for spells.

  • Charge your favourite crystals in the moonlight for meditation.

  • Take a bath with epsom bath salts and essential oils.

  • Make a spell jar (herbs, crystals and moon water) for good luck and intention.

  • Journal your thoughts, feelings and manifestations for this month.

  • Dim the lights and have a stretch into stillness with your fav Yin Yoga poses.
